The Fish Market :: Fishing nets

Fish and seafood from Laxe market are captured using selective nets that help to preserve the necessary conditions to guarantee maximum quality. The most widely used nets are:
Betas
These are single cloth nets that are put out at dawn and collected at sunrise. The main species caught are whiting, pouting fish, denton, cod, scad, etc.
Miños
These are nets made up of three cloths in which the interior cloth has a smaller net than the two exterior cloths. The main species caught are turbot, pike, dover sole, goleta, john dory, spider crab, brown crab, etc.
Nasa
These nets have a cylindrical element that is totally surrounded by a cloth of small dimensions in the net. Normally, in the interior there is a layer of cement to keep the net in a determined position. On the opposite side there is a small circular shaped entrance where species come in from attracted by the bait that is positioned in the interior of the net. The main species caught are octopus, zool crab, slipper lobster, prawns, etc.
Rascos
These are nets of a single cloth that have large nets. The main species caught are john dory, monk fish, lobster, clawed lobster, etc.
Trasmallos
These are nets with three cloths, very similar to Miños, but are made using a different material and have different sized nets. The main species caught are sea bass, grunt, pinto bass, ballan wrasse, etc.
Volantas
These are single cloth nets, very similar to betas but with higher and larger nets that are put out at dawn and collected at sunrise. The main species caught are hake, cod, grouper, sea bream, palometa, pouting fish, scad, etc.
